The objective of this experiment is to separate ethyl acetate/toluene mixture, and find the efficiency of the separation, also to find boiling point, density and refractive index for each liquid. And in the final, the fractions of isolated component are determined by gas chromatography to determine the accuracy of the distillation. In this experiment we separate compounds by distillation. Distillation involves boiling and condensing a mixture of compounds. The compound which has lower boiling point boils first and therefore its vapors condense first. Condensing the vapors of the compound allows us to purify it. Simple distillation is used to separate mixtures of compounds which have large boiling point differences, but if the difference in the boiling point between the compounds is small, then fractional distillation is used.
