Pollen, dust mites, mould, pet dander and cold: asthma might be exaggerated during cold weathers because cold air makes it all the way down to the lungs; and cold makes the muscle spasm. Each lung has an apex that sits 2-3 cm above the 1st rib an area that"s quite vulnerable. Bottom surface of the lung is referred to as the diaphragmic surface. There are 2 systems of blood supply to the lungs: 1) pulmonary and 2) bronchial blood supply. Pulmonary blood supply (respiratory) used for gaseous exchange with airways: pulmonary a. : takes deoxygenated blood from the heart and into the lungs, pulmonary vv. Also very closely associated with airways: drains into hemiazygous v. or azygous v. If there is something (e. g. fluid) in the airways, it tends to lodge in particular bronchopulmonary segment: In the olden days, physiotherapists would deal with this by positioning the patients in different positions to encourage movement of fluid out of those areas.
