BIOB10H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Endosome, Cell Membrane, Pinocytosis
Document Summary
Endocytosis: the process cells take up stuff: things are enclosed by the plasma membrane. Endocytic vesicle: pinched off vesicle pinches off within the plasma membrane. Endocytic vesicles fuse with receiving compartment (the early endosome) Tgn of the golgi or outside the cell. Things that the cell does not want to destroy can be sent back to the tgn: recall, this is retrograde transport, this can be done at any maturation stage, m6p receptors go back. The membrane becomes part of the plasma membrane: the surface area does not keep increasing because membrane. Endocytosis of ldl components are removed from the surface by endocytosis as fast as they are added by exocytosis. The endocytic part of the cycle often begins at clathrin-coated pits. When a clathrin coated vesicle invaginates into the cell, within seconds of being pinched off the coat is shed: the transition period is short lived.
