ELT093 Lecture 1: Wind turbine safety
Document Summary
Safety means being precautious so that you do not hurt yourself. But also, the employer is responsible to make sure that the environment that the employees are working is safe. They should assess the work area, materials, and equipment to identify all safety hazards prior to the any work. Since, wind turbines are very tall structures and solar panels are usually installed on building and constructions above ground, we should be careful from falling, and always wear a harness. Also, we should always wear personal protective equipment, these will protect us against impact from falling objects, chemical and welding radiation, sharp objects in the ground, slippery surfaces. Additionally, we should pay attention to the electrical safety. Electrical hazards pose significant potential for personal injury and fire damage. Wind turbine uses blades to collect wind"s energy. Wind turns the blades, which spins a rotor. The rotor is connected to the low-speed shaft.
