Suicide, homicide and deadly accidents are most common for male deaths. Gender differentiation pattern (one gender is more likely to experience a trait) Heart disease and cancer are the top 2 causes of death for men and women across all ethnic groups. Heart disease is the leading killer of women across all ethnic groups. In the us only 1 out of every 3,700 women die related to pregnancy or childbirth. In africa 1 in 16 women are at risk of death. In asia 1 in 65 women are at risk of death. Pregnancy and childbirth related deaths are highest in countries with limited financial resources and access to healthcare. Being female is viewed as dangerous to your health (murphy 2003) Table 11. 1 life expectancy and the 10 leading causes of death for males and females. Primary symptom for women = chest tightening (attributed to psychological disorders) Heart disease is influenced by genetics, age and behavior.
