The glass ceiling = invisible barriers to the promotion of women and ethnic minorities into upper management and executive levels. Early 1970s common to separate job advertisements for men and women. Courts ruled it was illegal to advertise employment based on gender. Modern sexism in job advertisements = still prevalent. Demonstrated that selection and promotion were influenced by gender; discrimination occurs because managers in charge of promotions/creating assignments for self-interested ways. Managers behave the ways they perceive the boss would want them to.
