COMM 306 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: G1 Phase
Document Summary
Agency- the possibility of intervening either positively or negatively to influence events. Two levels: practical- things easily practiced, but no easily put into words, discursive- things practiced that are easily put into words. Everybody in the organization holds some sort of power through agency. We have rules and practices that become apart of our routine so much so they become apart of our practical consciousness. We can not always predict how other people will react. Three things to do with information gap: we fill in missing information with our own interpretations, existing organizational members distort information, people substitute information when we don"t know. Organization assimilation: the process by which an individual becomes integrated into the culture of an organization. Expectations about what it might be like to have a particular vocation/career. Information usually gathered as job seekers either intentionally or unintentionally. The individual is a formal member of the organization. Information is shared through orientation, training, and mentoring.
