So the british say yeah nevermind we need you for the war effort so we are not going to give you your independence right now. This does not sit well with a large portion of ireland. Easter monday, 1916 and is nicknamed the easter rising. Their leader patrick pearse gave the proclamation of the irish republic. It has a similar message as the declaration of independence. This shows the continued relevance and salience of these ideas.
