Document Summary

Lemurs and lorises (branch) tarsiers, ceboids, cercopithecoids, hominoids. All primates are more visually oriented than other mammals. Dental formula: incisors, canines, pemolars, molars, tooth shape is a complex trait, genes play a huge role while environment and physiology play a much smaller role, we can use teeth to differentiate between groups. Bumps on the bottom but more caved in=premolars. Bumps on the bottom but flatter=molars: dental formula=how many of each kind of tooth. Humans have 2 incisors, 1 canine, 2 premolars, 3 molars. Lemurs only found in madagascar: they have been separated from the mainland for millions of years, have expanded into different niches so there is a lot of variation. Large bodied lemurs tend to be active during the day and small bodied lemurs are active at night. Large bodied day active (diurnal) are female-dominant, females have better access to resources. Vertical clinging and leaping, called vertical because they leap off of the vertical trunks of trees.
