Document Summary

Fatigue of aircraft is 150x you y it for hard landings and turbulence: aircraft metals: Aluminum alloys: mixture of aluminum and other metals. Pure aluminum- very light, bends easily, cheap, most processed in sheet form. Can"t be too heavy, need to get off the ground & fuel cost. Most common is duralumin= 2024, code identi es how much aluminum, copper, etc. Some are heat treatable, after you design it you can put it in an oven and it will harden and strengthen. Very high strength, not much on new aircraft because of weight. Most common is 4130, black, heavy steel. Very lightweight, highly corrosive, doesn"t handle vibration (easy to crack), burns easily. Lightweight, corrosion resistant, can withstand high temps. Bad parts: very dif cult to work with, need special tools. More than one layer, covered in strips. Cotton, grade a- how much strength it has at certain speeds. Brands: poly- ber, ceconite, super uity: aircraft composites.
