Sex- biological status defined by chromosomes and anatomy. Gender- socially constructed roles and characteristics in which culture defines male and female. Gender identity- person"s sense of being male or female. Transgender- gender identity differs from that typical of their birth sex. Aggression- men tend to exhibit more physical aggression than women do. Social power- men tend to have more power, be more directive, interrupt more, apologize less: women tend to be more democratic. Social connectedness- women tend to be more interdependent and have closer social networks. If we do not have sex, we do not die. Guilt related to sexual activity- reduces sexual activity but reduces use of contraceptives. Alcohol use- use alcohol prior to sex are less likely to use contraceptives. Mass media- media"s portrayal of unsafe sex decreases use of contraceptives. Homosexual- sexual relationships with individuals of same sex: biological factors. Heterosexual- sexual relationships with individuals of other sex.
