Kohlberg"s stages of moral reasoning preconventional morality (in children), conventional morality (10-20 years old), postconventional morality (rarely reached before age 20, by a small segment of the population. Preconventional morality what"s in it for me mentality, not looking out for the concern of others around them. Conventional morality judge the morality of actions by comparing them to societal norms, obey laws. Postconventional morality guided by conscience (independent thinking) and abstract principles of justice and equality regardless of the laws that are in set in place already. Universal ethical principles - common principles that are the same across the world; hard to identify these principles. Carol gilligan brought the female perspective to kohlberg"s stages of moral reasoning, found that morality in female consists more of the morality of caring rather than the morality of justice. Social consensus morality focuses on caring for others and upholding laws and social rules, we all agree on something.
