ANTH 350 Lecture Notes - Lecture 14: Hutterite, Anabaptism, Population Bottleneck
Document Summary
Sardinians have remained isolated from rest of europe- isolated genetically. Genetics shows sardinians genetically homologous to each other. Probably result of founder effects/ genetic drift. Same population for thousands of years generally. Waves of migration in other parts of europe not effecting sardinia. There is some genetic differences based on mountain and resulting isolation: iceland. Gene flow not significantly contributed to gene pool. Genetic changes result from bottlenecks/ genetic drift. Tm2d3 gene variant- higher risk/ earlier onset alzheimer"s 10% population has. 5% population has: anabaptists: hutteries and genetic disorders. Protestant groups who believe in adult baptism; insular. Persecuted in europe, leads to population isolates. Survive by having a lot of offspring. Hutterites- communities, have technology, don"t try to convert: because live in close proximity, anabaptist more susceptible to genetic conditions. Hutterites- found in north america/ canada- susceptible to disorder that causes amino acid cystine to accumulate in body"s cells. Population bottleneck: difference- hutterites will use technology.
