Had studied aristotle, plato, bentham, hobbes, and many more by the age of 12. Was doing independent writing by the age of 6. Who unfairly called utilitarianism a doctrine worthy only of swine . Two objections, in sandel"s words: doesn"t prioritize human dignity and individual rights, reduces everything of moral value to a single scale (sandel, pg. 48) People can do whatever they please as long as it doesn"t hinder other people"s ability to do whatever they please. The permanent interests of humans as progressive beings. If you don"t consider all possible options, you"ll never reach your full potential in life. Insisting that failing to think for oneself is a great harm. Mill"s version: responds to the criticism that utilitarianism uses a single scale by: Claiming there are intrinsic qualitative differences between kinds of pleasures. Intellectual pleasures(pleasures of the higher faculties)(longer term, built on) Pleasures of the intellect, of the feelings and imagination, and of the moral sentiments .
