In 2012, 1 in 5 college students in the united states reported being treated for or diagnosed with some type of mental disorder in the past year: mood disorders. Any chronic, pervasive emotional state that significantly alters a person"s thoughts, behaviors, and normal functioning: depressive disorders. Depression is most commonly characterized by prolonged sadness. It is usually temporary and occurs in reaction to an event or loss. A depressive disorder is usually characterized by profound, persistent sadness or loss of interest that interferes with daily life and normal functioning.
