Uniform resource identifier (uri) / uniform resource locator (url) The internet was spawned by research in the early and mid-1960s into packet switching. Several packet-switched networks were created in the late 1960s and 1970s. One of these was the advanced research projects agency network (arpanet) which was the first to use protocol transmission control protocol / The first message over the arpanet was lo. An attempt was made to transmit login but the system crashed after the second letter. The internet began as a way to connect researcher computers around the us. Here were the connected institutions in 1974: Packet-switching and tcp/ip are the foundation of the modern internet. The open systems interconnection (osi) model defines seven network layers: When data is sent over the internet, a series of portable data units (pdus) is wrapped. For each pdu, each layer wraps the pdu from the previous layer (just above it) and sends it to the next layer (just below it).
