Document Summary

Magmatism: magma is molten planetary material, many, perhaps all, planets originally had magma oceans, on some planets, magma now resides deep within and erupts onto the solid surface which results in volcanism. Volcanism: principle mechanism of planetary resurfacing, may be continuous or episodic, is probably extinct on some worlds, io: satellite of jupiter, the most volcanically active world in the solar system. Volcanic activity observed in the solar system: earth, io (moon of jupiter, triton (moon of neptune, enceladus (moon of saturn, in additions, venus and mars have many volcanoes, and europa (moon of jupiter) has been recently resurfaced. Two types of volcanism: silicate (rock) volcanism: inner solar system and lo, ice volcanism: outer solar system, other materials may form magma. I. e. sulphur on lo and earth (minor), carbonate on earth (rare) and possibly. 2/1/17: a volcano is a vent where molten rock comes out of earth. Temp. depends on composition: earth is mostly igneous rock.
