These categories are not perfect there are many organisms that don"t fit neatly into one or the other. Predators: organism that consumes other living organisms, kills them immediately upon capture, mostly animals and some protozoans, mostly carnivores (with some exception seed predators , usually bigger or similar size as prey, usually consume multiple pretty throughout lifetime. Need one other parameter: the efficiency of predation (c) cnprey = per capita rate of consumption (prey captured / predator / unit time) When will population growth be 0: simplifies to nprey = d/bc, prey population growth is 0 when this condition is satisfied, simplifies to npred = r/c, predator population growth is 0 when this condition is satisfied. Predator and prey population just keep cycling over time. Assumption of the simple model: growth of victim is limited only by predation, predator is a specialist that only can eat the victims, predators and victims randomly encounter each other (no refuges)
