ACIS 1504 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Pie Chart, Line Chart
Document Summary
Goal: picking chart type based on purpose of chart type. **4 major chart types: pie, line, bar and column. Pie chart- to show proportions of a whole, 100% of something and how divided up. Line chart- shows a trend, if increasing or decreasing or flat, generally overtime (has time factor on it usually but not required) Bar chart- (horizontal) compares things at a given point at a time. Column chart- (vertical) compares things over time. (if data items happened at diff times and can label those bars with a time, use column) Both line and column has time, column time on horizontal axis and line usually on horizontal axis. If actual relationship isn"t what is important and overall trend is important use line chart. think of a reasonable top number to scale on line chart chart suppose to reflect numbers. If chart looks better than numbers probably crossed ethical line in real world.
