Fewer and fewer kids are working during high school bc school is more rigorous, less willing to hire high schoolers, education becomes more important and putting off work force. Patterns of time: boys vs. girls. Guys spent lots of unstructured leisure time (games vs. chatting) More guys working in high school (might have to contribute) Girls help with siblings but boys go to work out of necessity. Adolescents in the work force: types of employment. Do(cid:374)"t (cid:374)or(cid:373)ally have desk jo(cid:271)s, easier for part time jobs in the evening for food people: hours worked. Over 20 hours a week is detrimental, under 20 hours is normally okay. Pre(cid:373)ature afflue(cid:374)(cid:272)e, thi(cid:374)k you"re ri(cid:272)h though you have (cid:374)o (cid:271)ills. Can spend money on things pare(cid:374)ts do(cid:374)"t approve of. Decreases importance on school when you feel more at home at work. Leisure time: use of free time, structured vs. unstructured time. Structured is supervised and run by adults.
