Document Summary

Inherited by parents or through your environment (context where u were raised) Hardwire for thoughts and behaviors exist within the physical person. Plato: ideas such as the good and beauty are inborn. Charles darwin: some traits, behaviors, and instincts are part of the nature of the species. Aristotle: all knowledge comes through the sense. Locke: the mind is a blank slate (tabula rasa - blank chalkboard or screen) that is written on by one"s experience. Nothing about human experience is 100% determined by nature or nurture. Strong interplay between these two factors, but the balance is different for each thing. Ex: language development - need biology of being human, but also environmental aspects. We share a common origin that gives us an inborn human nature in common + we have differences that are shaped by our environment. The deep level, biology: genes, brain, neurotransmitters, survival, reflexes, sensation. Can be both innate and environmentally determined.
