Family arena: institutional arena where people practice intimacy, child bearing and socializing, and caring work. State: institutional arena where, through political means, behavior is legally regulated, violence is controlled, and resources are redistributed. Market: where we sell our labor for pay, economic exchange, and wealth accumulation take place. Day care: market makes available child care for families. Marriage license: laws and regulations of the state determine who can and can"t get married. Census: periodic count of people in a population and their characteristics.
