Control group- no treatment: groups otherwise identical. Other confounders: physical activity, less detection/medical care, pollution, Case control study different genetics, different diets: match cases with control (match hospitalized breast cancer with someone else without it) Intervention studies: animal study, experimental group - gets treatment, control group - no treatment, compare outcomes (did they get less cancer, less heart disease, etc. ) Human clinical trial: experimental group - gets treatment, control group - no treatment, compare outcomes at end of study.
