How teachers/adults think ( theorize ) about development has a major impact on development. We need to become consumers of research to have well-informed theories of child development. Dependent variable (dv, outcome ) = variable(s) investigator measures to determine. Independent variable (iv) = variable thought to affect a study"s outcome the role of the iv. Covariance = how much 2 variables change ( move around ) together. Correlation = standardized statistical measure of covariation. Correlation coefficient = degree to which 2 variables covary.
