Document Summary

It is unreasonable to consider a cat"s abilities as inferior or superior to our own: biologists abandoned the idea of any one species being superior to another decades ago. It is now considered that each species has evolved to fit its particular way of life. Differences in brightness, pattern, shape and size seem to be more important to them. The whiskers aid in balance, but the inner ear contributes the most to their sense of balance: their inner ear system is similar to ours, but its information is used more effectively in cats. Cats need about 10 feet in order to land on all four feet. It is also unknown how exactly they make use of their sensitive noses, but it is clear that they locate prey using their scent marks. The information picked up from scent marks is crucial for making decisions on how to act if they do encounter one another.
