Buddhism: pure land, chan (zen), gods are born in heaven live there for thousands of years then are reborn elsewhere, polytheistic. Hinayana lesser vehicle, thai buddhism, closer to traditional buddhism, translates to lesser buddhism , mainstream. Mahayana greater vehicle, east asian & tibetan buddhism, savior buddhas, bodhisattvas (people who wish to become a buddha) Daoism: heaven is a physical place, the dao is like the holy spirit. Philosophical daoism: dande jing, tao te ching, doesn"t talk about god just dao (the sacred), monism. Religious daoism: heaven has a bureaucratic structure, uncountable number of gods, priests, monks and nuns, polytheistic. Diffuse popular religion: what the common people (peasants) practice, absence of religious advisors, no members just families who go to temple together.
