Nixon won 1968 election without clear promises about vietnam, options included: end the war immediately, continue war in south vietnam, give american equipment to vietnamese fighters, bomb north vietnam into submission, or he could use nuclear power. Nixon chose vietnamization: withdraw american combat troops unit by unit and continuing air and naval support worst decision made by a cold war president . Prolonged war by four years at immense cost. Chapter 13: america in the middle east and africa.
