Plants came before arthropods, but interactions were present. Hemolymph pumped through spaces surrounding organs and tissues. Trachea areas where gas exchange occurs. Chelicerates horseshoe crabs, scorpions, ticks, mites, spiders. Mouth parts that act like hooks or pincers. Each segment has two pairs of legs. Each segment has one pair of legs. Marine lobsters, crabs, shrimp, plankton, barnacles, and isopods. Incomplete: young resemble adults but are smaller, wingless, and not sexually mature. Complete: larvae are distinct from the the adults and may have different foods and/or habitat. Sometimes males are produced from unfertilized eggs, and females are produced from fertilized eggs. Parthenogenesis female gives birth to female insects through cloning. Habitats include land, water, and air, but not in marine environments. Transmit diseases through their bites or their feces. Fruits and vegetables are primarily pollinated by insects. Halpodiploidy males = haploid, females = diploid.
