Document Summary

Allele: alternative versions of the same gene. Environmental factors favor some alleles over others. Fitness: the relative ability of an organism to reproduce in a particular environment it is determined by the interaction between the phenotype and an environment. For example, resentment bacteria has increased levels of tness in the presence of antibiotics. Increased tness = increased likelihood of survival. 2 types of natural selection: arti cial - - happens through human intervention. Ex. dog breeds: natural - - happens though environmental intervention. Advantageous traits are more common so the organism can be better to to its environment. Would antibiotics be a result of natural or arti cial selection/ Ex. moths becoming darker to match the ashy environment created by factory smoke in the 40s and 50s: stabilizing selection - - goldilocks selection. Middle of phenotypic range is better than either end.
