Computer communications means the process of sharing data, programs, and information between multiple computers. E-mail- fast efficient alternative to actual mail using electronic documents. Texting- efficient direct communication using short electronic messages. Videoconferencing- low-cost alternative to long distance calls using voice and video delivery. Electronic commerce- buying and selling goods electronically. Connectivity- using computer networks to link people and resources. For example, connecting your computer to the internet and other web servers. Communication systems- electronic systems that transmit data from one place to another. Examples are sending and receiving devices and connection devices. The information goes from a sending device to a connection device which sends it through a communication channel where it goes to another connection device connected to a receiving device. Communication channel- channels that carry data from one computer to another. Physical connection- they use a solid medium to connect devices. Twisted-pair cables- copper wire twisted together, used by telephone lines and ethernet cables.
