Compassion towards those suffering is a favorable quality. Many people praised him for his love: he found it hard to bear because of his strong passion caused by his desire, to relieve the suffering, he would talk with and be consoled by friends. Gratitude; most praiseworthy quality: to not appear ungrateful, he wants to repay those who helped him and assist those in need (no matter how little his help may be) People suffer pains of love unless it is replaced with new interests: women are less able than men to deal with these discomforts. Men in love are affected by melancholy or ponderous thoughts: not given discomforts by love as women are. Have ways of alleviating or forgetting them. Go on a walk, hunting, riding, attend to business . Occupies the mind and removes the painful thought. First day of the decameron: author explains why certain people have gathered to tell stories on any subject that pleases them.
