BIOL 1210 Lecture Notes - Lecture 25: Classical Conditioning, Operant Conditioning
Document Summary
When serotonin levels are up, you can think about the future and invest things are okay right now . Modulating can you think about future or on the present. Consciously react to same stimuli in different ways. Operant conditioning: modify behavior in response to feedback. Classical conditioning: expand ability to recognize stimuli associated with good or bad experiences. Specifically, the changes appear to occur at synapses. Too much or too little stimuli can make neurons kill themselves. Amount of neurotransmitter released into a synapse can change. The number of synapses a presynaptic neuron forms with a postsynaptic neuron can change (via axon branching) Sensitivity of postsynaptic neurons can change (threshold changes) Difference: modulation goes back and forth constantly, learning and live memories don"t have to last forever but they still last (more permanence) Connection: to learn you have to have emotions, passion. Modifying the map (of how you think the world works) only if it"s not good enough.
