What factors must be present for a specific event to occur. How should one go about trying to determine what factors lead to a certain outcome? . Fact: a measured property of the surrounding world. Subjective: the observer makes a difference in the observation. Causal factor: a factor that can make a difference in the outcome, but it alone is not sufficient enough to be the cause. Data: the collection of numbers taken from a set of measured observations. Statistics: means of summarizing and analyzing data. Hypothesis: an educated guess about the existence of some type of pattern in nature based on prior observation and/or scientific knowledge.
