Plant cell contains a chloroplast, which is almost the same thing as cyanobacteria. Purple photosynthetic bacteria have an innermost membrane with lhc & photoreaction centers and both have chromophores. Carbon anabolism it"s not just photosynthesis, that"s why he titled this. First part: an important aspect of carbon anabolism is photosynthesis. *all of the carbon in the biosphere comes from the atmosphere and is fixed by plants and cyanobacteria. Nadph only if used in concert with the oxidative phase: the pps and the calvin cycle have important similarities, nadph is biosynthetic reducing power, used for example to reduce glutathione, the most important antioxidant. #2 melvin calvin invented the use of radiolabeling studies in order to determine how carbon is fixed in the dark reactions of photosynthesis. The only other opportunity to talk about how biochemistry is done. This chapter has this one main idea because a new method was needed to be invented in order to understand how carbon was fixed.
