The controllable qualities of light: light is very impactful. Increase or decrease by dimmers, number and type of instruments, distance, presence or absences of color. How much light will reach the stage: distribution. Placement of the light source and the area that it illuminates. Overhead, batten(light down), pipes, catwalk, in the house, on the floor. Frontlighting, backlighting, crosslighting, downlighting, or uplighting: color. Red, green and blue mixed together create white. Gel - different colors; removes color or adds a color into the light; now built in instrument allowing all light shades. Scroller - changing gels within the light; makes a fast-paced sound: movement. The functions of lighting design: provide appropriate visibility, no camera; therefore light is necessary to see, sculpt dimensionality. Shut out light where not wanted and have it where needed: reinforce and create stage compositions, enhance mood and atmosphere. Red - sexy; hell; evil; fire: support style and production concept, reinforce the action.
