Acculturation: when one culture exerts an influence on another. Transculturation: cultural change resulting from the merger, convergence, or conflict between disparate cultures. Syncretism/hybridization: when a new cultural form/tradition is created from a synthesis of different ones. In modern political and economic climate often depends on patronage of state and wealthy elites. Music which is passed down orally, authorship of works unknown, forgotten, or not considered important. Associated with rural populations, and/or the working classes, and/or non0industrial societies. Performed in communal and ritual contexts, during, milestone events (births, weddings, coming of age, etc. )
