The scientific method: conceptualize the problem. Theory an organized set of ideas meant to explain observed events. Hypothesis a statement that explains an observation from a theoretical perspective: collect data research design and approach research methods, draw conclusions analyze date, revise research theory and conclusions. Choose a research design: correlational research design. No manipulation of subjects: experiment research design. Random assignment of subjects to 2 groups of subjects: experimental and control groups. Choose a research approach: cross-sectional approach. One point in time, one group of subject of differing ages and one procedure. Many points in time, one group of subjects of same age, different procedures as subjects get older. Choose a research method: the procedure used to collect the date, observations. Bias in design or method: external validity. Ethics and research on human subjects: informed consent, human subjects review committee, no coercion, privacy and confidentiality agreement. Prenatal development period: conception birth, begins as a genetic physiological process, in adolescent puberty.
