Advantages to long distance relationships: personality characteristics. Some people prefer ldrs: sailor on every boat . Ex. guy having multiple girlfriends in different cities: high achiever. Happier for longer in ldrs: survival skills. Downside but also good side, you learn how to take care of yourself and do things on your own rather than expecting someone else to do it (wife changing a tire: negative consequences of ldrs, loneliness, tension/stress. Fighting long-distance is much harder than face to face. Easier to avoid each other: other relationships. Many ldrs end because another began that"s face-to-face: break-ups. But among married, no difference due to distance. Higher likelihood of breaking up when you get back together: predictors of success in ldrs, money get rich. Easier to travel and see each other: support system. Need to understand your time management/balance between family and partner. Friend that pushes you to break up with them.
