Apollo and leto - one of zeus" first affairs (leto) Birth at delos - artemis helps because hera makes it tough for leto - association with childbirth. Protective of family - myth of niobe and children. Leto and artemis are close - mom and daughter relationship - reflective of artemis and her hunters/nymphs. Importance of purity for her and her huntresses/nymphs. Myth of actaeon - myth details in chapter. Idea of cruelty but also protecting purity. Shows importance of her purity - but also her group, who take vow of chastity - myth of callisto and arcas.
