Incipient arminianism and the voice of reason all evil, etc. hierarchy (no room for revolution) and conflicted with the emerging wealth and materialism. People saw order and reason in nature, instead of god"s inscrutable will. If a human can understand the workings of the cosmos, then the human is close.
