PSYC 336 Lecture Notes - Lecture 14: Occipital Lobe, Wilhelm Wundt
Document Summary
Seeing involves some sort of visual awareness . A tumor in the occipital cortex removed it and some brain tissue. Result partially blind, can"t see anything in the left half of the world. When tested, insisted he couldn"t see the target at all. Guessed correctly if the target was moving. He had no idea how he was accurate. Blind, insisted he couldn"t see, failed to react to visual inputs. Accurate performance even though he couldn"t see the target. Claimed he only had an impression of motion and that he was aware there was an object moving . But generally able to guess the color/shape of targets, and the orientation of lines. Wundt sought to understand the elements of consciousness. James sought to understand the stream of consciousness.
