Document Summary
Cognitive unconscious the broad set of mental activities that you"re not aware of but that make possible your ordinary interactions with the world. You"re generally aware of your mental products but unaware of your mental processes. Usually unaware of the process that brings you this knowledge. No way of telling which bits are supplied by memory retrieval and which bits are from inference or assumption. Can"t distinguish between genuine recall from a potentially misguided assumption. Ex. someone is an eyewitness given feedback about suspect identification. Feedback remember having a closer, longer, clearer view of the suspect. Told that it would have several side effects. Trembling hands, butterflies in stomach, irregular breathing. Willing to accept 4x as much amperage as control participants. Influenced by their physical symptoms terminate the shock series early. Attributed fear somatic markers to the pill less influenced by their own physical symptoms. Overruled the evidence of their own anxiety and misread their own internal state.
