The articles of confederation and the constitution iii. Checks and balances keep government under control. The us is so large and diverse, it prevents individuals/factions from overpowering the nation. Now we must rely on government for freedom. Gives the federal government too much power ! Will suppress the voices of ordinary people. Small government in small communities is best. Liberty means the power to rule over one"s self. There is no bill of rights, to protect freedom of speech, trial by jury! Anti federalists failed because no platform, just against federalists, not pushing a different idea. 1787 - delaware is 1st state to pass constitution. 1789 - united states george washington 1st president of continental. Slavery is not mentioned by name, but it does nothing to stop slavery. Article 1, section 2 : the 3/5th clause. Each white person counted as a whole person, each slave counted as of a person. South want to make them = 1.
