Could mutations occur that destroy the function of. Yes but will disappear bc can"t repro. Mutations that slightly change & don"t affect function will be selected for bc can repro better via avoiding immune system. Can stilll bind to viral receptor but antibody can"t. Direct consequence of how the viral genome is in 8 subunits**** Can occur in either genes that codes for the two protiens.
