First successful book by a native american author (pulitzer prize winner) What made it different was it was a novel set in contemporary time. Much of his writing draws on his experiences as a native american with ancestry from several tribes. Hadn"t really had a film from native american perspectives yet. People thought it would herald a new turn on how you show native. It didn"t really change unfortunately, did have an impact on people now. Very different medium because people wouldn"t necessarily check it out. You have to hope that people pull that information. Was being pushed everywhere, including native american kids. Token: uranium prospection got sick and moved to navajo.
