Memory: brain system, retain info. and skills acquired through experience, retrieve to bring it to mind. 3 basic processes: encoding (converting information into a form usable in memory)(visual and auditory, storage (retaining information in memory, retrieval (bringing stored information to mind) Encoding- transformation of information from one form or another. Stages & types of memory: atkinson-shiffrin model. Short-term memory- holds a small amount of information for a limited time. >differs in 2 ways: actively manipulates information, allows for multiple, simultaneous processes. Non-declarative- unconscious, have experienced it but not consciously aware of it. Procedural- knowing how to do things; ex: knowing how to ride a bike, don"t need to think about it. Classical conditioning- conditioned how to do things, ex: ate pizza w/ peppers, sick all night, next time you see pizza w/ pepper it makes you nauseous. Priming- exposure to one stimulus in uences the response to another stimulus.
