Self-acceptance- positive self image despite knowledge of their flaws. Autonomy- making decisions independent of their social environment; emotional and intellectual independence as well. Authenticity- genuine expression of one"s beliefs/opinions, but sensitive and considerate of others. Capacity for intimacy- share their feelings and thoughts in a healthy manner. Creative- constantly learning and exploring the world around them. Influences- parents, role models, friends, peers, colleagues. If one or more needs is not met. Cognitive distortion- thought is worse than reality. Cope ineffectively: negative self-talk, playing the blame game, developing negative self-esteem, getting defensive.
