Hdf 201 - lecture 13 - late adulthood: developmental tasks. Myth: late adulthood is associated with a period of being frail, fragile, and unable to care for oneself. Fact: late adulthood is actually a period of growth in some areas, but a decrease in others. Life expectancy - the average expectation for how long a person is expected to live. Primary aging - aging brought on by natural/biological causes. Secondary aging - aging brought on by environmental causes. Due to film developing over the eye. Glaucoma - pressure in the fluid of the eye increases. Age-related macular degeneration (amd) - gradual deterioration of eyesight. Fewer taste buds loss of taste. Might be why many older people lose their appetite. After a certain point in time, the body is no longer capable of producing human cells. Example: a computer that"s being used frequently then eventually shuts down. The body wears out or becomes less efficient with age.
