Socialization-studying how individuals internalize beliefs about the society, learning social norms. Primary socialization-the process of learning way of society when very young through intimate primary groups: primary groups-close-knit, long lasting groups, and unspecialized (family, primary socialization involves parents and gender socialization. The reading suggests that fathers support conformity of gender roles. Boys are really encouraged not to be feminine but girls are okay to be boyish. Discomfort with boys approaching femininity was linked to a fear of homosexuality. Heterosexual fathers saw their jobs as fathers to teach son to be men . if son was gay or feminine, they failed, which reflects negatively on them. Heterosexual moms and gay parents were concerned if their son was exhibiting feminine/gay traits, but not because of failure, but because they feared son rejection/bullying. The parents had different motives of promoting gender roles: the pink and blue project. Exhibits how arbitrary the colors are associated with certain genders.
