We are going to look at race as a social construct, not a biological fact. Symbolic category - socially constructed category, belongs to the realm of ideas, language, meaning-making, etc. 2010: white, black, african american, or negro, some other race. In the united states, we lump all asians together. When you go to their country, they do not identify as the same group (nationalities) Phenotype - physical appearance, height, hair, texture, eye color, and skin tone. Ancestry - tribal, regional, or national affiliations. We have a fairly extreme way of identifying race in this country.
